NOTE BY NANCY: I came across this article by Phil and thought it so good, I had to share it! Phil does an outstanding job of revealing how nonsensical and confusing the fighting in the Middle East is.
Are you confused by what is going on in the Middle East? Let me explain.
We support the Iraqi government in the fight against the Islamic State [ISIS]. We support the Kurds who are fighting ISIS, but we are also allies with Turkey who are fighting our friends the Kurds who are fighting our enemy ISIS. We don’t like President Assad in Syria and want him gone. We support groups who want Assad removed, but we don’t support other groups, such as ISIS, which also want Assad vanished.
We don’t like Iran that much either, but Iran supports the Iraqi government, which is fighting ISIS, our enemy. So some of our friends support our enemies and some of our enemies are our friends, and some of our enemies are fighting against our other enemies who we want to lose, but we don’t want our enemies who are fighting our other enemies to win.
If the people we want to defeat are defeated, they might be replaced by people we like even less. And all of this started by invading a country to find weapons of destruction which were not there and to drive out terrorists who helped plan 9/11 but who weren’t there until we went in to drive them out.
Do you understand now? Phil
